Ammonium sulfite is recommended for use as an agricultural fertilizer
Ammonium sulfite is also a sulfur fertilizer.
Ammonium sulfite contains sulfur, an essential nutrient for plants. The role of sulfur among plant nutrients is as critical as that of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium; it is a component of several indispensable amino acids (such as cystine and methionine), which largely determine the nutritional value of agricultural products. Application of sulfur enhances crop yield and quality, increases protein and oil content in cereal and legume crops, and elevates starch and mineral levels in potatoes. Under sulfur supplementation, chlorophyll content in crop leaves rises, thereby strengthening photosynthesis. Soil sulfur deficiency leads to significant declines in both crop yield and quality. In the United States, the average nutrient composition for all crops is as follows.
