These elements oxidize in the soil, causing mild acidification and adjusting the pH level to improve alkaline soil. The compound helps dissolve trace elements in the soil, enhancing their availability, and exhibits inhibitory effects against certain soil pathogens.

As an efficient source of calcium and sulfur, calcium thiosulfate solution can replace sodium ions adsorbed on soil colloids to improve saline-alkali soils. The thiosulfate ions in calcium thiosulfate reduce plant-absorbable selenite to elemental selenium or other insoluble forms, thereby reducing selenium's bioavailability in soil and its transfer to the food chain. By supplementing calcium to plants before fruit and vegetable maturation, this approach prevents fruit cracking and enhances fruit quality.
